A Unified Genealogy of 3,609 Humans

The largest genomic analysis of both modern and ancient humans has been pieced together

A new paper in Science1 has been published by way of University of Oxford’s Big Data Institute where the authors combined a variety of human genomes, both modern and ancient. The sample includes the genomes of 3,609 humans from 215 different populations. Eight of these genomes come from ancient humans and some of them come from samples that are over 100,000 years old.

In total, 27 million ancestral haplotypes and over 231 million lineages were generated. In addition, they integrated 3,589 ancient samples from over 100 different publications. They have created the largest human family tree to date.
