For centuries, the Great Steppe has served as a corridor rather than a boundary. Traders, herders, and empires crossed it, leaving behind traces in language, culture, and history. Now, a new study shows that this movement is also written into the genome.

A team of Kazakh scientists has released the first comprehensive, high-quality genomic dataset of healthy Kazakh individuals. Published in Scientific Data,1 the work places a long underrepresented population firmly on the global genetic map.
